Gamay Noir

Gamay Noir is a light-bodied red wine with high acidity, low tannins, and vibrant red fruit flavors like raspberry, cherry, and cranberry. Closely related to Pinot Noir and famous as the primary grape of France's Beaujolais region, it is fruit-forward, food-friendly, and best served slightly chilled.

Flavor and Profile

Tasting Notes: Fresh raspberry, crushed strawberry, tart cherry, and plum.

Secondary Notes: Peony/violet floral aromas, wet stone minerality, and subtle white pepper or earthy undertones.

Structure: Light to medium body, high natural acidity, and very low tannins

A wonderful alternative to Pinot Noir for folks want to explore reds from the Willamette Valley.

Origins and Regions

Beaujolais, France: The spiritual and commercial home of Gamay, accounting for the vast majority of plantings. Styles range from light, bubblegum-and-banana-scented Beaujolais Nouveau to structured, age-worthy Cru Beaujolais from areas like Morgon and Fleurie.

Loire Valley & Burgundy: Also grown in small pockets of France.

New World Regions: Successfully produced in cooler microclimates like Oregon, the Niagara Peninsula in Canada, and parts of California (such as Sonoma and Amador County).

Food Pairings

Best Temperatures: Serve slightly chilled (around 50–55°F / 10–13°C) to accentuate its bright fruit and acidity.

Pairing Ideas: Roast or herb-roasted chicken, charcuterie, duck, pork chops, grilled salmon, and mushroom dishes
